2008 Gold Medal Ceremony
Congress recognizes 237 young people on the June 19, 2008 Gold Medal Ceremony!!!
Of the 237 Gold Medalists nationwide, 141 were able to make the trip to Washington, DC to receive their Gold Medals. The 2008 Gold Medal Ceremony took place on June 19 in the Cannon Caucus Room. With 237 Gold Medalists, there was a need to hold two ceremonies that day.
The Master of Ceremonies for the first ceremony was Mr. Chip Reid of CBS News. The morning ceremony recognized medalists from our Overseas Military Bases, Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Missouri, Mississippi, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, and West Virginia. The Keynote Horizon Award was given to Mr. C. West Huddleston III who serves as CEO and Executive Director of the National Association of Drug Court Professionals and National Drug Court Institute. Additionally, Ms. Sydney Ayers, a 2008 Gold Medalist from Kansas, provided personal perspectives into the program for the audience.

For the afternoon ceremony, Ms. Cynné Simpson of ABC Channel 7 News served as the Master of Ceremonies. Medalists from California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Wyoming were recognized at the second ceremony. 2008 Gold Medalist, Ms. Mara Truslow of Idaho gave remarks on the program. The Keynote Horizon Award was presented to Ms. Judy Vredenburgh, President and CEO of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of America.
