Medal winner Home-schooled student, 17, earns Congressional Award

Last month, Jenkins was awarded the Congressional Award Gold Medal at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., for her achievements in the program. The gold medal is the highest achievement for those who participate. The 17-year-old has mastered skills in physical fitness, camping, academic research, music and volunteer work while enrolled in a congressional award program.

Sen. David Vitter, R-La., presented Saints quarterback Drew Brees with the Horizon Award last week in recognition of Brees' volunteer and charity work in metro New Orleans. The award was handed out at the annual Congressional Awards reception in Washington.
